THE ATHLETE
Dirk Nowitzki is one of just two players in NBA history to play 20 seasons for only one team. The Mavericks legend has accomplished countless feats and achieved monumental milestones – from winning the 2011 NBA title to scoring 30,000 career points – all while playing in Dallas. Through his work off the floor, he’s become one of the most recognizable and beloved sports figures in this city’s history.
THE ART
Commissioned by the Dallas Mavericks for its Season Ticket Holders, Brad Oldham created the limited edition DIRK 20 sculpture first by hand in clay form. After approval from Dirk himself, the sculptures were die-cast in zinc, one-at-a-time, hand-polished and plated in nickel with a custom patina to ensure that it maintains its luster. In his iconic fadeaway stance, the final sculpture measures 8.25” from basketball to toe, a proportional reduction taken from life-size measurements. This process and materials were chosen to provide great detail in a small-scale and individually numbered piece of art.
